Bitcoin Magazine
Bitcoin Magazine is one of the original news and print magazine publishers specializing in Bitcoin and digital currencies. Bitcoin Magazine is a printed publication founded in Romania by Mihai Alisi (Mihai Alisie) in 2011 and dedicated to the problems of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Mihai Alisi attracted Vitalik Buterin as the author and co-founder of the magazine. Currently, the publisher and owner is the American company BTC Media (Nashville, Tennesse), which translated the magazine exclusively in the online format (printed publication is called yBitcoin).
BitcoinMagazine is traditionally high in the RICHTOPIA ranking among the organizations with the greatest influence in the blockchain industry. Bitcoin Magazine began publishing in 2012, and was co-founded by Vitalik Buterin and .[1]
Contents
History
The founders, all of whom were part of the DCAO, first organized to produce a magazine under the brand BitTalk Magazine in December, 2011[2].
Content started appearing on the magazine’s website in March, 2012. The first issue went to print on May 1, 2012 and subscribers started receiving the physical first issue of the magazine, May 2012 (Issue #1) a few weeks later.
Vitalik Buterin became interested in bitcoin in 2011, and co-founded the periodical Bitcoin Magazine with Mihai Alisie, who asked him to join.[3] Buterin was writing for a blog when his writing captured the attention of Alisie, and they subsequently decided to start the magazine. Buterin took the role of head writer as a side project to his attendance of university.
Growth to print magazine
In 2012, Bitcoin Magazine began publishing a print edition and has been referred to as the first serious publication dedicated to cryptocurrencies. The magazine was mailed to subscribers worldwide, sold at Barnes & Noble, bookstores and published online. Bitcoin Magazine was the first magazine dedicated to crypto currency. The magazine was available in 2012 for $9 per month, although many of its articles were also available online for free. Buterin noted he spent 10-20 hours per week writing for the publication.
BTC Media
Bitcoin Magazine is now owned by BTC Media, which is the media and publishing subsidiary of BTC Inc., who acquired the magazine in 2014 from Coin Publishing LLC. BTC Media also publishes yBitcoin, Let’s Talk Bitcoin and Distributed. Bitcoin Magazine today is under the BTC Media Group umbrella.[4]
Digital Transition
Bitcoin Magazine ceased publication of their print magazine and currently posts content online. In its place, BTC Media created yBitcoin.
Mihai Alisie
Alisie was living in Romania when he co-founded the magazine. In 2013, while still Editor in Chief of the magazine, Alisie was involved with Cody Wilson in the darkwallet project.
Mihai Alisie, would later go on to also cofound Ethereum with Buterin, and as of 2017 was involved with a Spanish blockchain start-up named Aragon. As of 2017 Alisie was the CEO of Akasha, a blockchain social media app on Ethereum.[5]
