What is Everipedia?
Everipedia is an open-source universal commercial Internet encyclopedia with free content, implemented on the principles of the wiki. “Evripedia” differs from “Wikipedia” in more similarity with popular sites like Facebook, it also has significantly weakened criteria for the entry of information.
Evripedia was established in December 2014 as one of the projects of Sam Kazemian and Tedde Forselius and belongs to the American company Everipedia, Inc. Mahbod Moghadam joined the board in 2015 and around the same time the website received the first financing from Mucker Capital, for $ 120,000. Travis Moore and Christian Deciga joined in winter 2015.
In December 2017, Larry Sanger, one of the co-founders of Wikipedia, took the post of director of information technology.
The number of articles in Everipedia was 6 million (as of 2018), most of which was copied from the English Wikipedia. Due to this fact, in December 2017, Everipedia is the largest encyclopedia in English, but most articles are not updated as often as in English Wikipedia. The site is also criticized for the frequent appearance of false information in news articles.
In December 2017, the project management announced plans to use blockchain technology on the EOS platform, which makes it impossible to block the site by the decision of the government bodies of any state. Everipedia also uses elements of social networks, such as the ability of celebrities to communicate with their fans. In addition, the participants of the “Evripedia” can vote for or against the placement of quotations in it – a large number of votes against removing the quotation.
At the beginning of August 2018, the transfer of Evripedia to the blockchain platform EOS was carried out. Thanks to this, Evripedia became the first decentralized encyclopedia in the world, which excludes the possibility of its censoring.
